Is 10-10-297 a good deal?

10-10-297 was nearly identical to the 10-10-987 program however, it is no longer an active program.  In most cases this will not save you any money over programs such as Opex and Pioneer Telephone

Is the 10-10-297 dial around service any better than than the 10-10-220 service?

The 10-10-297 program boast a low 3 cents per minute with a 39 cent connect fee.  Having a connect fee means that you are charged 39 cents just to connect the call (even if it's just to leave a message on an answering machine) and then 3 cents a minute after that.

Review Table A and you will see that for most people this is actually a better deal than their 10-10-220 program.  At 20 minutes of talk time, it works out to be the identical cost as the10-10-220 program.   After 20 minutes it actually works out to be less expensive since 10-10-220 bumps their cost back up to 7 cents per minute and the 10-10-297 programs average cost works it way down closer to 3 cents per minute.

Follow the math here:

A one time connect fee of $0.39 plus 3 cents per minute divided by the total duration of the call will give you your average cost per minute.

((Total Number of Minutes X .03) + (.39 connect fee) / call duration) = Ave cost/min

See Table A for results

As you can see by the results in Table A, the 10-10-297 program is more cost effective for the average consumer than 10-10-220.

However, compare this to other national programs such as Pioneer Telephone where there is also no monthly fees, and average cost is less than 4 cents per minute (in 6 second increments) and you do not have to dial any 10-10 numbers.

You should also compare this to  using a service such as OPEX at just 2.7 cents per minute for any duration of call state to state.   Even AT&T can give you a flat rate of just 7 cents per minute for any duration of call.

Would 10-10-297 have saved you money?  Yes, if compared to 10-10-220.   But in our opinion, both of these programs fall short of saving the consumer any money at all when compared with Opex at 3.49 cents per minute  (in 6 second increments) without having to dial a 10-10 number and no connect fees as well as other similar national programs.

Conclusion

1010287 appears to no longer be an active program.  In it's prime the savings were questionable. You would have to talk a VERY long time to even come close to matching the price of active programs such a Pioneer TelephoneOpex, PowerNet Global Business  or most other serious long distance providers.
